The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the NFL.
After setting a single day record on Monday with 37 positive covid cases, the league is continuing to deal with a sharp increase as the Omicron variant spreads.
By Tuesday night , 75 players tested positive in two days according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Los Angeles Rams were forced to close their team facility on Tuesday and the Cleveland Browns also moved into the league’s enhanced protocols after placing eight players — including four starters — onto the COVID reserve list. This could affect their ability to field a competitive team ahead of their Week 15 game on Saturday against the Raiders.
A Washington Football Team Tier 3 staffer also tested positive for the Omicron variant, the first known case in the league. Tier 3 staffers are certain operational personnel, in-house media and broadcast personnel, transportation providers and workers who perform facility, stadium or event services but are not permitted to be in close contact with players.
The NFL has instituted a vaccine booster mandate as of Monday, asking that all employees who've already been fully vaccinated receive booster shots by Dec. 27. The NFL coronavirus protocols are developed and overseen jointly by the NFL and the NFL Players Association. The new booster requirement does not apply to players.
All players who test positive for COVID-19 or land on reserve/COVID-19 are being exempt from returning to work until either logging two negative tests 24 hours apart (if vaccinated) or proving asymptomatic after 10 days of isolation.
